High passes, vast monasteries, and the edge of the map.
From the great monastery at Tawang to the remote valleys of Mechuka and Anini, Arunachal is for travellers who want to go where few do.

"Tawang Monastery on a ridge with snow peaks behind, prayer flags in the foreground."
The wildest, highest, and most remote of the eight states. Arunachal is where the Himalaya climbs to meet Tibet, where great monasteries sit above the clouds, and where some valleys still feel genuinely undiscovered. It is the largest Northeastern state and by far the least travelled, which is exactly its appeal. The roads are long and the terrain is serious, but what they lead to is extraordinary: Tawang, home to one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the world, the dramatic Sela Pass, alpine lakes, and valleys where the modern world has barely arrived. This is a state that asks something of you. The journeys are longer, the comforts simpler in places, and permits are required. In return you get a part of India that feels untouched, with deep Buddhist and tribal cultures living side by side. We handle the logistics and the permits so the difficulty stays adventurous rather than stressful.
What you will see
Take a slow, thorough walkthrough of these local treasures, curated and managed wholly by homegrown guides.

"Sela Pass under snow, the winding mountain road and a frozen high-altitude lake."
Tawang
The crown of any Arunachal trip. The Tawang Monastery is a vast, centuries-old complex perched above the valley, and the route to it crosses the high Sela Pass and the poignant Nuranang Waterfall. Madhuri Lake and the war memorial round out one of the most rewarding mountain journeys in India.
Dirang and Bomdila
The gentler waypoints on the climb to Tawang. Bomdila has its monastery and apple orchards, Dirang its dzong and hot springs. Beautiful places to break the journey and let the altitude settle.
Ziro Valley
A wide, green valley of paddy fields and pine, home to the Apatani people and one of the most distinctive cultures in the region. Ziro is calm, photogenic, and a complete contrast to the high drama of Tawang.
Mechuka, Anini, and the deep valleys
For those who really want to get off the map. Mechuka with its monastery and river valley, Anini in the remote Dibang Valley, and Namdapha, one of India's wildest national parks. These are expedition-grade journeys, and unforgettable.
