We are from here. That changes everything.
The Rainbow Butterflies is a homegrown travel team, not a booking desk in another city reading off a map.

Hills, river, or village at golden hour
Why we started this journey.
The Rainbow Butterflies began with a frustration. For years, founder Bonjeet Khamon watched visitors arrive in the Northeast, get shuttled along the same worn routes, and leave without ever meeting the place. They saw the postcard. They missed the region.
So the idea was simple, even if the work was not. Build trips the way a local would plan them for a friend. Skip the loops that exist only because they are easy to sell. Sit people down in real kitchens, walk them into real villages, and put their money where it actually does some good.
What started as a handful of carefully planned journeys has grown into a full team working across all eight states of the region, from the tea gardens of Assam to the high passes of Arunachal. The trips are bigger now. The principle has not moved an inch.
A small team, on purpose.
We have stayed deliberately lean. Not because we cannot grow, but because the moment a travel company gets too big, the traveller becomes a booking number and the village becomes a line item. We would rather know every host by name and answer every traveller ourselves.
“We do not sell the Northeast. We introduce you to it, and then we get out of the way.”
The people who make the trips happen.
Behind every journey is a small group of people who live and breathe this region. You will deal with real names and real faces, the same ones, from your first enquiry to your last evening on the trip.

"Portrait of Bonjeet, relaxed and approachable, ideally outdoors."
Bonjeet Khamon — Founder
Born and raised in the Northeast, Bonjeet built The Rainbow Butterflies to share the region they grew up in, on its own terms. They lead route planning and keep a personal eye on the trips that matter most.

"Portrait of Abhilasha, warm and professional."
Abhilasha Mohan — Traveller Experience
Abhilasha is often the first person you speak to and the one who keeps your trip running smoothly once you arrive. If something needs solving on the ground, she is on it, coordinating with local guides seamlessly.

"Building the digital experience behind every journey."
Dixit Gogoi — Full Stack Developer
From the website you browse to the systems that help coordinate trips, they build the digital tools that keep The Rainbow Butterflies running smoothly, the developer's work ensures every interaction is fast, reliable, and thoughtfully crafted for travellers.
Around them is a network of local guides, homestay families, drivers, and cooks across all eight states, the people who turn a good itinerary into a real, lasting experience.
Local roots, run properly.
Plenty of operators promise authenticity. Very few can actually reach the places they show in their photos. Our advantage is not a clever brand. It is years of relationships, in person, with the communities that make this region worth the journey.
Real access
Doors open for us that stay shut to outside agencies, because the people opening them know us and trust us in their homes.
Honest planning
We will tell you when a famous spot is not worth your time, and what offbeat location to explore instead.
No corporate layers
Talk to the people making decisions on the ground, not a call centre three states away.
Come see the Northeastthrough the eyes of locals.
Every itinerary is handcrafted. Every experience supports local communities. Every journey leaves you with stories worth telling.
